“Using Medications Appropriately in Older Adults:
What You Need to know to Help Your Seniors”
Presented by:
Dr. Marilu Orozco-Peterson
Our Seniors are on more medications than ever before. Although there is no
denying that we benefit from longer lifespan and better life quality, there can be a
downside to modern pharmacology. We need to ask the question: Can "The Cure"
be possibly worse than the disease? What are the common and uncommon
interactions with FDA approved meds and "Alternative treatments." ? What are the
unique complications that can happen in our Seniors with medications and how
can we avoid them?

These questions and others will be explored with Marilu Orozco-Peterson, M.D.
Medically trained at University of Chicago and the University of Illinois, she
specializes in Family Medicine and Geriatric issues. We will get a background on
potential problems to look for when dealing with common medications and how to
be better advocates for our clients.

“The Brave New World of Technology and Activities”

Presented by
Jack York ~Founder / CEO: It's Never 2 Late
See the future, today!  This hands on, interactive presentation will show you how
activity professionals and rec therapists across the country are utilizing adaptive
technology to transform the lives of the residents they serve, and have fun at the
same time!

Older adults, regardless of any physical or cognitive disabilities, are able to stay
connected, stay engaged, and be a part of the technology revolution.

The presentation is geared towards non-technical individuals, and attendees will
learn the do's and dont's of setting up technology driven experiences in their own
community.  The "greatest generation" invented the backbone of the technology
we take for granted today, see how they can be allowed to enjoy it. Today this type
of technology is innovative, tomorrow it will be demanded.
Objectives:
-          Provides hands on examples of various types of person centered
technologies that improve the quality of life for AL residents
-          Highlight case studies throughout the country of organizations that have
integrated adaptive technology into their programming
-          Provide outcome based research showing tangible benefits of providing
technology for older adults with physical and cognitive disabilities.

Registrations must be received by September 8, 2010
